A small sample from a big day!

I had an amazing opportunity to photograph a wedding yesterday attended by absolutely lovely guests. I could not be more happy for the bride and groom. Lucky for them they get a chance to celebrate all over again in Mexico with the bride's side of the family come this May. To ensure her dress stays a surprise I am waiting until then to post other photos from her beautiful day!

Farm Day!

Thanks to my dear friends at Wellscroft Farm in New Hampshire, I was able to have full access to photograph Farm Day! And what a day it was. It's amazing that even amongst animals there are introverts and extraverts. It took no time for the latter to come right up to the camera and pose.

Although the natural lighting was absolutely gorgeous it posed a challenge because my subjects were moving between bright light and darkness. I photograph almost exclusively on manual settings and had to be extra diligent about metering my exposure. I used spot metering to give me the most exact metering of the light on the part of the subject I wanted to expose for. I also bumped up my ISO to give me flexibility with my shutter speed and aperture settings without worrying about too low of shutter speeds that could result in camera shake or motion blur. The results were magical!

Beyond the 30+ baby sheep at the farm there were also over a dozen border collie puppies! Talk about being in heaven. After hours of playing with little kids and big kids alike the puppies were wiped causing one to pass out in it's chow.

Thanks farmer David for your commitment to running a sustainable farm! It takes a special person with the right disposition to be a farmer with the long hours and hard work necessary to manage. In return you have extremely happy animals and it was so nice to see the community observe the result of your dedication.
Your enthusiasm is contagious!

Candy O'Terry, Magic 106.7

I had the opportunity to photograph the beautiful Candy O'Terry of Boston's Magic 106.7. She is now the new co-host of the morning show with Mike Addams. Not only is Candy O' amazing to listen to on the air, I also consider her a role-model and mentor. I have known her for all of the years I've lived in Boston; being her daughter's best friend has perks! Throughout those years I have seen her take her dreams and make them a reality. From creating a multi-award winning program, Exceptional Women, to singing the National Anthem at many venues including the Celtics, to creating her own production company, My Dove Productions, to co-founding Boston Women in Media and Entertainment, to singing and recording radio played songs! The list could go on - Candy O' has more determination and energy than most people I know.

Thank you, Candy, for all your shared wisdom and for believing in my skills as a professional photographer - I am so proud of you and it was such a great experience to collaborate together on your new beautiful headshots!

The excitement hasn't stopped!

I feel honored to have been invited by Plywerk to be part of their Art Hub. Plywerk is the company I used to print and mount my photographs on their beautifully handmade bamboo panels. Their product is so clean and professional that it really brought my art exhibit together. Not only that, the quality of my prints were so remarkable that I had a few people ask me during the installation if my photos were paintings. I am taking that as the ultimate compliment considering my inability to actually draw or paint! So thank you Plywerk - I am excited about our new collaboration!

24/7 until May, hurray!

THANK YOU for all the love and support.
Last night was everything I had hoped it to be. I even had a classmate from the photography program I attended at Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts stop in. What were the chances her visit unknowingly overlapped my opening? It really felt full circle.

As expected it was such an amazing feeling to see all my images floating on the walls and what was even more amazing was to hear the conversations it created about photography amongst the diners.

I was most in awe with the macro photographs. To see a small acorn span 20 inches tall and a tiny tiny snowflake come to life. It was hard to leave my art work behind, but I am excited to see what opportunities it may bring!

So if you are in Austin don't forget to stop by Kerbey Lane Cafe (3704 Kerbey Lane), Central for some delicious food and to check out the exhibit. It will be on display 27/7 until May 1.

Of course I couldn't resist photographing this sweet feral kitty as we were leaving at the end of the evening. It reminded me how in love I am with my Nikon D700. Even at ISO 5000 and a slow shutter speed I was able to get quality images. Great ending to a perfect night.

Today is the day, to display at Kerbey Lane Cafe

I cannot believe  the beginning of March is already here! As many of you know I am putting up my very first art exhibit at Kerbey Lane Cafe, Central in Austin, TX today. There has been lots of planning and collaboration throughout the production process; thanks to all who helped make it possible! Organizing 25 various sized images to be printed and mounted on bamboo is no small feat. Thanks to my new friends at Plywerk (www.plywerk.com), 179 lbs of beautiful prints on unbelievable beautiful handmade bamboo panels were in transit to arrive this past Friday at my sister's house in Austin. Every time I heard a diesel engine I ran to look out the window in anticipation for the UPS truck. As you can imagine, every other car in Texas is a truck so there were many false alarms.

Moving the party outside was perfect solution with sunshine, a cold beer, and birds chirping in the trees/cactus it was a picture perfect scene (pun intended!). Upon the arrival of UPS, poor Tim the driver was subjected to a 70-200mm lens in his face, good thing he had a sense of humor and strong muscles.

Finally the packages were here and I was seeing my prints on the bamboo panels for the very first time! What an amazing feeling it was, an out of body experience really. One image was as beautiful as the next.

At 4pm today my team (Chris, Elizabeth and Ryan) will help me install my photographs! Seeing how exciting the arrival of the art work was I can't imagine how incredible it is going to be to see all 25 pieces up on the wall! I will post about it tomorrow.

If you're in Austin today, come by the Kerbey Lane Cafe, Central (3704 Kerbey Lane) around 6pm for the opening night.  My photographs will be displayed until May 1. You can also view and purchase online at: www.hemondink.com/kerbeylane
