Thanksgiving delight!

So much to be thankful for…Like my neighbor running over (literally, running!) bay leaves to me for the missing ingredient in my Thanksgiving soup. Amazing!

Lots of chopping but totally worth it.

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Photoyoga

It's not often I get to see myself in action, especially photographing macro photography.
Interesting to say the least :)

I am giving away a box of macro photography notecards to the person who can come up with
the most creative yoga pose name…

Super "Fresh" Friday: Grand Canyon

3 nights & 4 days of back country fun from the Grand Canyon North Rim down to the Colorado and back up.
With many incredible stops along the way!

THANKS TO  TOM & TODD FOR BEING THE MOST AMAZING GUIDES EVER. ANYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN A GUIDED BACKPACKING TRIP INTO THE GRAND CANYON THESE ARE YOUR GUYS!
IT WAS UNMISTAKABLY THE BEST ADVENTURE I HAVE EVER HAD.

CHECK OUT WHAT THE JOURNEY ENTAILS

I feel incredibly grateful for the role my sisters play in my life. What better way to celebrate our friendship than clearing our minds of time and distraction and being reminded of this world's beauty.

I am still brought to tears thinking about how much I loved being in the Canyon,  meeting new people and being reunited with Tom! I've  been distracted all week replaying memories over and over in my head.

Can you believe it was one week ago that we were half way into our second day? Where does time go?

I hope you enjoy a small preview into the many photo/video memories of our trip...

Now that's what I call multi-tasking!
Unbelievable beauty around every bend. My heart still skips a beat.
Trusty Owl Eyes watching over us!
Of course the macro had to make an appearance :)

Fresh Friday: Aug 9

I was absolutely amazed at the camouflage pattern on this Cicada - it looks exactly like military camo! Can you believe Cicada's live under the ground for 13 or 17 years - depending on the type - to then surface to mate and live only a few weeks above ground? This bug is extraordinary!

Fresh Friday: June 7

This photograph is another example of why I love macro photography in the element of natural light.
It's taking a moment in time and freezing it still. No manipulation just documenting what exists.

From a distance I thought it was a dried up leaf, on closer inspection I realized it was a moth.
If any of you know the type of species please let me know!

"Heartbreak and Resilience"

What a beautiful Memorial day it turned out to be. I had opportunity many times over the weekend to reflect on how lucky I am for so many reasons. Like many, I take my freedoms for granted every day. I go about life as usual not understanding how good I really have it. I know no different. I was born into a life where freedom is a given. Where rights for the individual are the focus of this great nation and are encourage to be explored. It's easy to forget the sacrifices past generations have made for us. And it's hard to imagine that at any given moment around the world there are men and women working tirelessly to preserve our freedoms and to keep the United States of America safe from harm.

The 2013 Boston Marathon bombings were a recent wake up call that even in the greatness of this country unfortunate acts of terror can happen. From that we witnessed incredible examples of courage from civilians, medical personnel and law enforcement at the finish line. Hospitals that worked endlessly under the pressure of being on lockdown while faced with an overload of injured people. Collaboration and endless hours of effort from the state and federal government. An outpouring of support from around the world. And here at home The One Fund was created to collect donations for those most affected by the tragic events surrounding the Boston Marathon. We continue the quest to raise as much money as possible to help cover the financial burdens for those injured in the bombings: www.onefundboston.org

For many of us art is therapy. This has proven true for the students, graduates and faculty at Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts who have collaborated to bring you the photo exhibit: Heartbreak and Resilience: The 2013 Boston Marathon and Beyond. 100% of the proceeds made at the exhibit will be donated to The One Fund.

Please join us for the opening reception this Friday, May 31 from 6pm-9pm
274 Moody Street
Waltham, MA 02453

RSVP to the event: www.facebook.com/heartbreakandresilience/events

"Like" Heartbreak and Resilience on Facebook: www.facebook.com/heartbreakandresilience

and PLEASE forward along, share on Facebook, spread the word!

I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and meeting so many new people! Coming together and supporting one another is really what it's all about. Thanks in advance and hope to see you there!

Fresh Friday: May 24

I completely spaced posting a picture for Fresh Friday last week. I have what I think is a great excuse because I was all-consumed celebrating a Bat Mitzvah for a young woman who is truly like a little sister to me. Mazel Tov my sweet girl!

For today's Fresh Friday enjoy what beautiful soft lighting a rainstorm brings. Personally I love photographing flowers on days like today, especially with a macro lens. The overcast sky aided in capturing the rich color and depth of this rhododendron. Experience it yourself as this photo was not cropped (love macro!) or color treated (love cloudy days!).

Happy spring and have a great long weekend!

Fresh Friday: May 10

Along with seeing the amazing Great Blue Herons on Wednesday, I was also able spend some time with a charming family of Canada Geese. After we both got past the hissing and being hissed at
I was able to document their oh so cute family time.

Great Blue Heron(s)

Yesterday was proof that I am the luckiest nanny in the world. Not only has my "nanny family" supported me through my journey to become a professional photographer they continue to support my passion even when I am on the clock.

The mother of the children I care for suggested I take some time to photograph ducklings at a local pond. She happened to be on the phone with me as I approached this slice of paradise. I was there less than a minute when right before my eyes there was not one but two Great Blue Herons. These are the moments I live for as a photographer and I am forever grateful for the love and support from the best second family a girl could ask for!

Fundraiser for THE ONE FUND

The incredible Candy O'Terry of Magic 106.7 invited me into the studio to be interviewed for her new Exceptional Women Entrepreneur radio series
airing Sunday 4/28 (tomorrow!) at 7:25AM.

Following my segment Candy is launching a series on the truly exceptional
"women at the finish line" of the Boston Marathon.

Baby Fun!

It didn't take long for baby Hiestand to warm up to the camera. He was a natural! I can't believe this happy-go-lucky
7 month old was all smiles despite the fact he skipped his nap.
Here's a sneak peek into the incredible fun I get to have as a photographer.
