Farm Day!

Thanks to my dear friends at Wellscroft Farm in New Hampshire, I was able to have full access to photograph Farm Day! And what a day it was. It's amazing that even amongst animals there are introverts and extraverts. It took no time for the latter to come right up to the camera and pose.

Although the natural lighting was absolutely gorgeous it posed a challenge because my subjects were moving between bright light and darkness. I photograph almost exclusively on manual settings and had to be extra diligent about metering my exposure. I used spot metering to give me the most exact metering of the light on the part of the subject I wanted to expose for. I also bumped up my ISO to give me flexibility with my shutter speed and aperture settings without worrying about too low of shutter speeds that could result in camera shake or motion blur. The results were magical!

Beyond the 30+ baby sheep at the farm there were also over a dozen border collie puppies! Talk about being in heaven. After hours of playing with little kids and big kids alike the puppies were wiped causing one to pass out in it's chow.

Thanks farmer David for your commitment to running a sustainable farm! It takes a special person with the right disposition to be a farmer with the long hours and hard work necessary to manage. In return you have extremely happy animals and it was so nice to see the community observe the result of your dedication.
Your enthusiasm is contagious!
